Wilhite's Weekday Wrap-Up (Part 2) - May 21, 2008 |
|
The Alarm went off at 4:30. Then again at 4:45 and 4:47. :o) Shellee and I pulled ourselves out of bed and began to get ready for the day. We got the boys up and loaded the last of our suitcases into the entourage (the men of the church loaded the bulk of it the night before), and then left about 5:45 for Indianapolis International Airport. We took one last glance around at our home for the past six years and thanked the Lord for all that He had done during that time. We made it to the airport and unloaded 18 totes, five suitcases, two strollers, 10 carry-ons, seven boys, two parents, and one seventeen year old girl (Linnea Coons) that was crazy enough to fly half way around the world with us. I took one last look at the Suburban and thanked the Lord again for providing it, and was reminded that the same Lord would be able to provide in Japan as well. |

Wilhite's Weekday Wrap-Up - May 20, 2008 |
Well, we made it. :0) I wasn't quite sure if we ever would, but it has already been a week since we arrived in Japan. This will probably be a rather lengthy letter as I am hoping to convey to you all that has happened over the past several weeks.
Over the past couple of months we began in earnest the task of going through all of our earthly belongings. It seemed like an arduous yet manageable task, but nothing could have prepared me for all that was involved. We had nineteen pieces of luggage we could fill (at 62 inches length + width + height and no more than 50 pounds apiece) as well as 7 carry-on bags and 7 personal items. We were quite convinced that we could fit a lot of stuff in all of those bags. I found Rubbermaid totes at Meijer that measured exactly 62.2 inches to maximize our space (American Airlines said they wouldn't fuss about the .2). As we began to fill them (or rather as Shellee and our Pastor's wife began to fill them), it became quickly apparent that everything we had hoped to take with us was not going to fit. Shipping was out, as shipping prices were way too high for what I considered stuff (one quote came back at $9600!) and even if I had the money, I could not justify such a use of the Lord's money. |

Wilhite's Weekday Wave (Goodbye) - May 12, 2008 |
|
Just a quick note before a few hours of sleep – the packing is done, the emotions are all over the place, the tears are flowing, the goodbyes are said, the dread of customs in Tokyo is nearing, the totes are loaded, the kids are in bed, the itinerary is set, and we are just beginning!! We head out in the morning. The next note will be from Japan! May the Lord bless you all – thank you for your continued prayers for us! Because of Christ, Duane for The Wilhites (all 9) |
